About Metercor
Metercor Inc. was founded in Calgary, Alberta in 1997. It was started to provide product supply and installation services for water meters. Its first customer was the City of Calgary in the Province of Alberta.
From these early beginnings, Metercor has evolved and grown every year. Today, Metercor continues to provide water meter installation services, but as expended its focus to include gas and electricity metering. In addition, Metercor provides meter consumption reading solutions for walk-by, drive-by, and fixed networks, both star and mesh topologies.
When deploying mesh network solutions, there is the possibility for a myriad of Smart City and IoT (Internet of Things) use cases to be blended into the utility metering solutions.
In 2001, Metercor shifted from its humble beginnings as an installation company and grew to become a full service, systems integrator.
Metercor added to its existing installation offerings:
- data management,
- billing systems integration,
- deployment project management,
- call centre,
- mass mailing capabilities, with an assortment of leading systems integrator capabilities, such as:
- Conceptual Modelling,
- Systems Design, with budgets, schedules, and standards modelling,
- Detailed Engineering, with functional drawings, cable run lists, structural and civil engineering, cranes, scaffolding,
- RF propagation modelling, with terrain analysis and signal level threshold estimations,
- procurement, both off-the-shelf and custom solutions,
- Implementation with working at heights and confined spaces certification, all underpins with a COR certified safety environment,
- advanced project management, with MS Project and reporting for performance and acceptance planning,
- testing, acceptance, and commissioning,
- training, both online and in-person with firsthand experience, and
- and proof of concept capabilities for scaled pilots and evaluation of large scale criteria for performance for business case and ROI modelling.
1997: CMI SERVICES
Started by a public utility employee who aspired to deliver expert services as a contractor. Strategic alliances are formed with major meter and automated metering manufacturers to become a Distributor of industry leading products.
1999: CITY OF CALGARY
CMI Services is awarded its first of many major contracts; the supply and installation of over 300,000 water meters and Itron ERTs for Calgary’s Universal Metering Project. The company carries the project through to completion on time and budget in 2014.
2010: METERCOR INC.
Western Canada
Rebrands as Metercor to solidify its place in the market as a leader in utility metering products and services. The change in name also reflects an ongoing commitment to innovate and improve within this specialized industry.
Eastern Canada
An office and warehouse are opened in Ontario to support the Universal Metering Project in Peterborough. Over 20,000 meter installations are completed on time and budget within 18 months.
2011-2015
Successfully delivers over 70 water and gas AMR projects across Canada
2015: EQUICAPITA
Seeing an opportunity to purchase a thriving company, Equicapita realizes its mandate with the purchase of its second asset. Operations continue to grow under a stable and supportive new ownership group.
2016: NEW GM
After 6 years of successful business development, John Cherewko becomes General Manager and later Vice President, with a growth mandate in new markets, innovative products, and partners.
2020: NEW PRESIDENT
Tracy Johnson joins the team to provide strategic direction and operations expertise as Metercor continues to grow its national footprint and product/service portfolio.

Calgary
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
Surrey
Within the Greater Vancouver and the British Columbia Lower Mainland area, Metercor acknowledges the traditional territories of the Semiahmoo, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Kwantlen, Qayqayt and Tsawwassen First Nations.
Burlington
Burlington as we know it today is rich in history and modern traditions of many First Nations and the Métis. From the Anishinaabeg to the Haudenosaunee, and the Métis – our lands spanning from Lake Ontario to the Niagara Escarpment are steeped in Indigenous history.
The territory is mutually covered by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy, the Ojibway and other allied Nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit.
